Artist interview

What inspired you to start tattooing? And how long have you been tattooing?

"I have always wanted to tattoo, ever since high school. I was the weird kid that would draw all over himself and his friends. Fun fact I actual got suspended in high school for drawing on my best friend. His mom wasn’t happy with what I drew on him, and reported it to the school. I have been tattooing for 9 years and if it wasn’t for Bryce, none of this would have happened. That is a much long story and well save that for clients in the chair."

What came first - your love of tattooing or your love of art?

"Art for sure. I have been drawing since I can remember."

What is your greatest challenge as a tattoo artist?

"Trying to slow down, but if I had a dollar for every time I have heard that, I would be able to retire already."

What do you find is your most requested style of tattooing? What style or subject matter do you really want to focus on?

" Most requested is more realistic looking subject matter, flowers, animal and such. If I could focus on something I would say anything nerdy, comic book, anime, Harry Potter ... you get the idea." â€‹

Do you prefer when one of your clients comes to you with a general idea for a tattoo, or do you prefer if they have a more solid concept with reference photos?

"This is a tough question, while it is very nice from time to time having someone bring you exactly what they want, it also is tough because most of the time it is something they found on the internet, which is already someone else’s tattoo. As an artist it’s always better to come up with something that is entirely yours."

What does a typical day look like for you?

"Tattooing and talking with amazing people. Then home to spend time with my lovely wife."

What is one of your favorite things about being an artist?

"Creating amazing pieces of artwork everyday." â€‹

Outside of seeing other tattoos, what influences your art? Other art, music, games, pop culture, etc..?

"Life is inspiration, you never know when it will strike."

If you didn’t get into tattooing, what do you think you’d be doing?

"Most likely graphic design or something related to that."

Do you make any artwork outside of tattooing? If so, do you sell any and where?

"Not really, I do make handcrafted wands, I have them for sale on Etsy.. I also have done prints of some of my artwork, they are for sale at redhouse or on redhouse’s Etsy."

What are your hobbies outside of the shop?

"Hunting, mostly deer. I also make wands. I also love Letterkenny, perhaps to much. I do watch a lot of T.v shows, and movies, Supernatural being my all time favorite show."

Why slytherin?

"Because the sorting hat said so. Also do the other houses matter?"

Any fur babies?

"We have a 12 yr old mini American Eskimo named a Snowflake." â€‹

What is one thing that many people don’t know about you that would surprise them?

"I love to sing, but would never do it in front of people, I mean I sing all the time in my station, but clients really can’t say anything bad... you know the whole I’m tattooing them thing. I also can moon walk pretty damn well."

What advice can you give to someone who is just starting to think about getting tattooed?

"Do your research before you decide to get so,etching on your body forever, because once it’s there, it’s there. Please do not let someone, a friend or whatever tattoo you in their kitchen. I can’t not begin to to you how many of those tattoos I have covered up. Also make sure you pick an artist that you feel comfortable with. I hear all the time, my friend recommended so and so, their tattoo was great, but when I got mine, it turned out looking bad. I can not stress enough do your homework before you walk in to a tattoo studio, customer reviews and such. Also make sure the person you choose, is someone you want to work with."
